Ledger is a French company specializing in secure hardware wallets and digital asset management, founded in Paris. In January 2022, the company announced a new logo and visual identity, marking a significant refresh of its brand design.[1]
Design and History
The current Ledger identity was introduced in 2022 alongside a broader brand overhaul. The company’s press materials describe the new logo as “repensé” (redesigned) with a “métamorphosée” (transformed) graphic charter.[2] The French design agency 17MARS created a motion film to reveal the new identity, which they describe as affirming the essence of the new brand through its brand system, typography, color range, and mindset.[3]
According to Ledger’s official brand guidelines, the master wordmark uses the full brand name accompanied by two custom brackets that serve as a visual representation of protection.[4] The bracket construction can also be applied as a standalone design element, framing compositions or serving as a subtle stamp of the Ledger brand, with the guidelines explicitly linking this element to security and protection.[4]
The brand guidelines also describe a lettermark version of the logo. When shortened to the letter mark, the logo uses the letter “l” repeated to form the iconic bracket shape.[5]
Meaning and Symbolism
Ledger’s official brand documentation explicitly ties the logo’s visual elements to the company’s core mission. The custom brackets are described as a “visual representation of protection,” directly connecting the mark to Ledger’s security-focused positioning.[4] The brand guidelines further state that the bracket shape “represents trust, security, and commitment to Ledger users.”[5]
Typography and Design
Ledger’s official brand guidelines specify three typefaces used across the identity: Brut Grotesque, HM ALPHA Mono, and Ledger Mono. Ledger Mono is described as a custom typeface designed by Ledger, a mono modular typeface intended for display use in bold applications.[6]
The brand’s creative direction is driven by the technique of light, which is used to create hierarchy across visual communications.[7]
