Moeda Loyalty Points (MDA) is a cryptocurrency token launched in 2017 on the Ethereum blockchain as part of the Moeda platform, a blockchain-based lending and loyalty system focused on microfinance for small businesses in emerging economies.[1] The token’s name derives from the Portuguese word for “currency.”[2] Moeda was launched during a United Nations hackathon in 2017, where it sought to address the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals.[3]
Design and History
The MDA logo is a circular emblem rendered in green and white, a design that functions as the token’s identifying mark across cryptocurrency platforms and exchanges.[1] The mark is widely distributed as a square-format icon in PNG and SVG formats, with the circular emblem centered within the square canvas.[4]
Moeda Loyalty Points was launched in April 2017 by Taynaah Ries, CEO and cofounder, with the platform designed to provide access to credit through a traditional banking system for underbanked people.[5] The MDA tokens are backed by a social contract in support of Green Cross Brazil to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.[6] The token operates as an ERC-20 token on the Ethereum blockchain.[2]
The green and white circular mark has remained the consistent visual identifier for the token across major cryptocurrency listing platforms and icon libraries.[1][4]
Meaning and Symbolism
The token’s name derives from the Portuguese word for “currency,” reflecting the platform’s Brazilian origins and its focus on financial inclusion.[2] The platform’s mission centers on promoting the economic well-being of excluded communities in a sustainable way, making the investment process easier by eliminating common financial obstacles that small businesses face.[3]
