Belnet is the Belgian National Research and Education Network (NREN), providing high-bandwidth connectivity and associated services to higher education, research centres and public services in Belgium.[1] The organization’s visual identity underwent a significant refresh in February 2024, when Belnet introduced a new logo and tagline alongside a redesigned website.

Design and History

On 29 February 2024, Belnet unveiled a completely redesigned graphic universe, including a new logo and slogan, as part of the launch of its new website.[2] The new identity was designed to better reflect the organization’s commitment to innovation and its various communities, with less formal and brighter colours than the previous branding.[2]

The 2024 rebrand also marked a change in the organization’s tagline. Belnet retired “Dedicated Connectivity”, a slogan that focused on the technical aspects of its business, in favour of “Connecting Communities” to emphasise its broader impact on the communities it serves.[2] The new logo is available in versions both with and without the baseline, downloadable in jpg and svg formats.[2]

Prior to the 2024 refresh, Belnet’s previous visual identity was designed by Lemento, a branding agency based in Antwerp, Belgium.[3] Based on broad positioning research, Lemento designed the earlier logo and associated visual identity, with the renewed positioning condensed in the baseline “dedicated connectivity”.[3] The resulting brand image was characterised as service oriented, professional and no-nonsense.[3]

Meaning and Symbolism

Belnet’s 2024 logo and slogan were introduced to reflect the organization’s commitment to its communities, moving beyond simply providing connectivity to also fostering relationships and interactions within the communities it serves.[2] The new visual identity, with its less formal and brighter colours, was designed to better reflect this community-focused approach.[2]
