Acıbadem Üniversitesi, officially Acıbadem Mehmet Ali Aydınlar Üniversitesi, is a non-profit foundation university in Istanbul founded in 2007 and focused on health sciences education. The university’s visual identity is documented in its official instructor handbook and corporate identity pages, which describe the emblem’s elements and their intended meanings.
Design and History
The university’s official emblem is described in the institution’s own materials. According to the university’s instructor handbook, the emblem shows “the generations that will enlighten the future with education and training” through the use of books and a sun, while laurel leaves express “the journey to victory and success.”[1]
The university states that the logo and emblem should generally be used together. The full corporate logo is reserved for official and corporate materials, while the shorter forms “Acıbadem University” and “ACU” are used on campus buildings, exterior signage, promotional products sold at the Campus Store, and event announcement materials.[1]
The university publishes both Turkish and English versions of its corporate logos on its official corporate identity page.[2]
Meaning and Symbolism
Beyond the official handbook description, the university’s emblem has been described with additional symbolic meanings. According to the university’s own Wikipedia article (which reflects the institution’s self-description), the emblem contains the phrase “Acıbadem Üniversitesi.” The dark blue (lacivert) color is described as an expression of honor, respectability and difference; orange as an expression of youth and dynamism; the rising sun as an expression of innovation and dynamism; and the book as an indicator of the path of reason and science.[3]
These color and symbol meanings align with the official handbook’s description of the sun and book representing enlightenment through education, and the laurel leaves representing the path to success.[1]
