Colorado Technical University (CTU) is a private, for-profit university headquartered in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Founded in 1965, the institution offers undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral degrees, primarily in business, management, and technology. The university is owned by Perdoceo Education Corporation, and the CTU logo is a registered trademark of that parent company.
Design and History
The current CTU logo is a horizontal lockup consisting of a graphic icon and the university name. According to the official U.S. Patent and Trademark Office registration, the mark consists of the words “COLORADO TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY” appearing on the right side of a six-bands-forming-triangle design. The word “TECHNICAL” appears underneath “COLORADO,” and “UNIVERSITY” appears underneath “TECHNICAL.”[1]
The icon is composed of six diagonal bands that form a triangular shape, with a dot at the lower left corner of the composition. The mark is rendered in a single dark red color, identified by Brandfetch as #B2292E.[2]
The university was established as Colorado Technical College in 1965, with a focus on training former military personnel in technical and vocational subjects. In 1995, the institution changed its name to Colorado Technical University.[3] The current six-band triangular mark is registered under serial number 77824480, filed by Colorado Technical University, Inc., and was renewed in 2020.[4]
Meaning and Symbolism
The triangular arrangement of the six bands has been interpreted as an abstract reference to the mountain landscape of Colorado, though this interpretation is not documented in official university materials. The university’s mascot, the Golden Eagle, is inspired by a Native American legend about a brave who transforms into a golden eagle at a mountain peak to gain knowledge and wisdom before returning to guide his people.[5] The mountain connection in the mascot story provides a thematic link to the triangular form of the logo, though the university has not published an official explanation of the symbol’s meaning.
Typography and Design
The wordmark uses a clean sans-serif typeface with the three words stacked vertically to the right of the icon. The typography is rendered in the same dark red color as the graphic element, creating a monochromatic lockup. The logo is designed for horizontal application, appearing in the top left of the university’s website and across print and digital materials.[6]
The CTU logo is a registered trademark of Perdoceo Education Corporation, the parent company that owns Colorado Technical University.[7]
