Kjellberg Finsterwalde is a German group of companies in the metalworking industry, founded in 1922 as Kjellberg Elektro-Maschinen GmbH in Finsterwalde and named after Oscar Kjellberg, the inventor of the coated rod electrode.[1][2] The group manufactures plasma cutting systems, welding electrodes and solutions for submerged arc welding, with main locations in Finsterwalde and Massen-Niederlausitz.[1]
Design and History
The Kjellberg Finsterwalde visual identity centers on a typographic wordmark featuring the company name. An SVG version of the logo, uploaded to Wikimedia Commons in October 2009, was provided directly by Kjellberg Finsterwalde and is attributed to the company itself.[3]
The company’s corporate identity is documented in an official Kjellberg Finsterwalde publication describing packaging updates. The document states that the “melon yellow” color and the “Kjellberg lettering” correspond with the group’s corporate identity, and that this combination is applied consistently across products including plasma cutting machines, electrodes, manuals, brochures and the website.[4]
In June 2020, Kjellberg Finsterwalde relaunched its website under the motto “Always on,” presenting revised content and a new design. The company described the relaunch as a “refreshing treatment” of its online presence, though the announcement focuses on the website redesign rather than a change to the logo itself.[5]
Meaning and Symbolism
The Kjellberg Finsterwalde identity is built around the company name itself. The official packaging publication explains that the melon yellow color and Kjellberg lettering together form the group’s corporate identity, allowing customers to recognize Kjellberg Finsterwalde across all products and materials as “the company with a long tradition.”[4]
The name Kjellberg has Swedish origins. A trademark registration for KJELLBERG FINSTERWALDE notes that the English translation of the mark’s words is “Kjell,” meaning a source or stream of water, and “berg,” meaning mountain.[6]
Typography and Design
The Kjellberg Finsterwalde mark is a typographic wordmark, with the “Kjellberg lettering” serving as the central element of the corporate identity alongside the melon yellow color.[4] The wordmark is also used in a monochrome version, as seen in the SVG file provided by the company.[3]
An exhibition stand designed for Kjellberg Finsterwalde at the STOM trade fair in Kielce in 2025 used yellow, white and gray as the dominant colors to reflect the brand identity, with the company logo featured on a central wall.[7]
