The Amazon Echo logo is the wordmark for Amazon’s family of smart speakers and voice-enabled devices powered by the Alexa assistant. Amazon publishes official brand guidelines for the Echo identity, which cover logo usage, typography, color, and trademark requirements for external partners and developers.[1]
Design and History
Amazon maintains three distinct Amazon Echo logos for use in its first-party creative, with usage rules that vary by context and region.[2] The logos are part of a broader brand system that Amazon’s design team and external agencies have refined over time.
In 2025, design agency Koto collaborated with Amazon’s internal design team, Amazon XCM, on a company-wide rebrand that simplified the identity of more than 50 Amazon sub-brands, including Amazon Echo.[3] The project created a custom font called Amazon Logo Sans, which was rolled out across sub-brands such as Amazon Smile, Amazon Cash, Amazon Echo, and Amazon Jobs.[3] The rebrand also updated Amazon’s existing typeface, Ember, into a new version called Ember Modern.[3]
Earlier, the original Echo device itself carried a gray Amazon logo printed on the lower half of its cylindrical body, as documented in product reviews from the device’s launch period.[4]
Meaning and Symbolism
Amazon’s official Echo brand guidelines identify Echo Blue as the brand’s primary color, with supplemental colors to be used for marketing consistency.[5]
Beyond the wordmark, the most recognizable visual element associated with the Echo product line is the cyan blue light ring that appears on Echo devices when Alexa is listening, thinking, or speaking.[6] In July 2016, Amazon filed a trademark application with the US Patent and Trademark Office seeking to protect the cyan blue rings that appear on Echo speakers when the device is listening.[6]
Typography and Design
Amazon’s official Echo brand guidelines state that Amazon Ember is the master brand font for all Amazon products and services. For the Amazon Echo brand specifically, two weights are permitted: Amazon Ember Light and Amazon Ember Bold.[7] Amazon Ember Light is described in the guidelines as a clean, modern typeface that conveys simplicity and charm matching the Amazon Echo brand personality, while Amazon Ember Bold is described as strong, easy, and simple, intended for subheads, calls to action, and emphasis.[7]
Following the 2025 rebrand, the Amazon Logo Sans font was introduced for sub-brand wordmarks including Amazon Echo, replacing the previous typographic approach across those identities.[3]
