McPhy is a French designer, manufacturer and integrator of hydrogen equipment for the energy, transport and industrial sectors, founded in 2008. The company, originally named McPhy Energy, rebranded to simply “McPhy” in February 2017, adopting a new visual identity alongside the shortened name. The rebrand was announced as part of the company’s entry into a phase of accelerated, sustainable growth and was intended to reinforce its positioning as a key industrial player in the hydrogen sector. Design and History
The 2017 identity was described by the company as “faithful to McPhy’s founding values” while being “resolutely turned toward the future.” The name was simplified for more dynamism, becoming a brand in its own right. The logo’s angle, which the company described as symbolizing an enterprise fully engaged in energy, was retained from the previous mark. The typography, however, was modernized. [1]
As part of the rebrand, the historic “energy” designation was removed from the company name and incorporated into a new tagline expressing its business project: “Driving clean energy forward.” The company stated that this signature stabilized the logo and added meaning, serving as a strong commitment to its teams, clients and partners. Meaning and Symbolism
McPhy’s historic blue was revisited in a deeper shade, which the company said expressed the stability of the business project carried by the Group. [2] The typography, described as a balance of sharp angles and curves, was said to embody both technical expertise and innovation, as well as McPhy’s proximity to its clients and partners. [1]
A graphic “M” marker with colorful shades completed the identity. Described as playful and modular, this marker was built by overlaying and combining colors. The company stated it reflected the diversity of energy transition strategies deployed by energy players and the flexibility of the tailor-made solutions McPhy provides to address their challenges.
