Entertainment One, commonly shortened to eOne, is a Canadian entertainment company that develops, acquires and distributes film and television content. Its visual identity has undergone several distinct phases, most notably a 2010 rebrand from E1 Entertainment and a 2015 logo refresh that introduced the mark still associated with the company.
Design and History
In July 2010, E1 Entertainment rebranded as Entertainment One, or eOne, and introduced a new brand identity to be used across its entertainment and distribution divisions. The company’s music and distribution operations moved under the Entertainment One banner, using a new logo and replacing E1 in division names with the Entertainment One or eOne monikers.[1]
In September 2015, Entertainment One refreshed its logo. The company announced the update with the headline “Leading Global Independent Studio Entertainment One Refreshes Logo.”[2] The 2015 redesign kept the concept and color palette of the previous version but placed the badge elements in a horizontal line. Two versions of the mark were produced: a full version with lowercase bright blue “entertainment” followed by a solid blue rectangle containing white “One,” and a shorter version.[3]
Earlier iterations of the identity include a 2009-2010 design featuring “E1” in white against a gradient of blue rays, and a 2010-2015 version with “e” and “one” inside a blue rectangular backdrop with “entertainmentone” spelled out in lowercase beneath.[4]
Meaning and Symbolism
The 2015 logo’s core device is a solid blue rectangle containing the word “One” in white, which visually forms the “eOne” wordmark when placed after the lowercase “entertainment.”[3] The blue rectangle functions as a container for the “One” element, creating the eOne abbreviation within the full company name.
Typography and Design
The 2015 logo uses a continuous, unified typeface in which “entertainment” and “One” join seamlessly, with “One” encased in the blue rectangle.[4] The design is notable for its simplicity, discarding the separate badge-and-text arrangement of the prior version in favor of a single horizontal lockup.
