HSN, an initialism of its former name Home Shopping Network, is an American television shopping network that originated the electronic retailing industry in 1977. The company officially changed its name from Home Shopping Network to HSN in September 2000. [1] HSN is part of QVC Group, Inc., a Fortune 500 company that also owns QVC, Ballard Designs, Frontgate, Garnet Hill and Grandin Road. [2]
Design and History
HSN’s visual identity has evolved alongside its business transformation. In 2006, Mindy Grossman joined HSN as chief executive officer. [1] Under her leadership, the network was relaunched in 2007 with new sets, graphics and on-air presentations, as well as a revamped hsn.com. [1] The relaunch also introduced a new tagline, “There’s no place like HSN.” [3]
In 2013, HSN launched another rebranding effort, complete with a new tagline, “It’s fun here,” which replaced “There’s no place like HSN.” The campaign, created by Deutsch NY, included a makeover of packaging, fonts, sets and scripts. [4] The advertising campaign was designed to appeal to a younger, fashion-forward digital customer and convey HSN’s breadth of fashion. [5]
HSN’s corporate press releases reference distinct logo assets over time. A logo used in 2007 press materials was identified by the PR Newswire image code CLW048LOGO, while a separate logo asset, FL76318LOGO, appeared in releases beginning in 2011. [6] [7]
Meaning and Symbolism
Documented symbolism for the HSN mark is limited. A brand identity system developed for HSN by designer Pratt Sutthipitak describes the visual language as balancing energy with authority, grounded in HSN’s core values of discovery, delight and trusted expertise. The system was designed to modernize the brand while honoring its heritage, giving HSN a unified, scalable visual language across broadcast, web, mobile and social platforms. [8]
Typography and Design
According to the brand identity system developed by Pratt Sutthipitak, Isidora Sans Bold was selected as the primary typeface for HSN. The brand book documented every element of the system, including color, typography, photography direction and motion principles, providing internal teams and partners a framework for consistency across platforms.
