Typeform is a Barcelona-based online form and survey platform founded in 2012. Its visual identity has undergone two significant documented changes: a 2018 rebrand by London agency DesignStudio and a later refinement of the wordmark by typographer Laura Meseguer.
Design and History
Typeform’s original logo featured a blinking cursor line at the end of the wordmark, referencing the text cursor visible in forms while typing. The animation was present in the mark before the 2018 rebrand, though it played a less fundamental role than it would later. In its static form, the symbol was always presented identically.[1]
In early 2018, Typeform launched a new version of its software and commissioned London-based DesignStudio to create a new identity. The rebrand was driven by the company’s growth over its first six years and a desire to communicate a more modern brand.[2] The process took nearly a year, longer than the 3-5 months DesignStudio initially estimated.[3]
The new identity centered on a “people first” brand proposition. DesignStudio developed a logo featuring a simple ring that organically takes shape to reflect people’s constant flux. The rings, the main visual element of the concept, were intended to represent people. They were designed to appear soft, imperfect, and emotional from one perspective, yet structured, precise, and rational from another, balancing the emotional and rational aspects of the product.[3] DesignStudio’s creative director Alex Johns described the new logo as a “living logo” that could change based on different factors to express complex data and emotions.[2]
DesignStudio drew inspiration from the works of Catalan artist Joan Miró and Pablo Picasso, both of whom had strong connections to Barcelona, where Typeform was born.[3]
Following the 2018 rebrand, Typeform’s in-house brand team refined the wordmark in collaboration with typographer Laura Meseguer. The existing wordmark was set in Aperçu, which was described as familiar and functional but lacking character. Meseguer introduced subtle custom gestures into the lettering, including softened curves and more nuance in the geometry, without making changes that would be immediately noticeable.[4]
Meaning and Symbolism
Typeform’s current brand page describes its logo as “simple yet recognizable,” featuring a blinking cursor side-by-side with a form. The symbol directly references the product’s core function: the cursor and form are the fundamental elements of the Typeform experience.[5]
The 2018 ring logo was designed to express the company’s “people first” philosophy. The rings were meant to feel alive and connected to real people, with the organic, irregular form reflecting human complexity and emotion.[3]
Typography and Design
Typeform’s official brand guidelines specify Aperçu Pro Regular as the company typeface, described as “clear and characterful.”[5] The 2018 identity used the Aperçu typeface, which DesignStudio selected because it appeared more playful.[2]
Typeform’s default brand colors are Paper (white) and Ink (black). The company positions itself as a “blank canvas” on which businesses can add their own colors to brand their forms.[5] This approach marked a departure from the pre-2018 identity, which used a fixed color palette. In the new scheme, people bring color to the brand.[3]
