Ganfeng Lithium Co., Ltd. (赣锋锂业), a Chinese lithium producer founded in 2000, introduced its current logo in 2020 as part of a brand refresh marking its 20th anniversary. The company announced the logo change in an August 2020 stock exchange filing, stating the new mark was adopted to better reflect the company’s characteristics and strategic direction while enhancing brand recognition and overall corporate image.[1]
Design and History
The 2020 logo iteration was described by the company as “innovation with heritage,” retaining the previous layout and color scheme while introducing five key refinements: incorporating sustainability concepts, optimizing letterforms, refining colors, unifying Chinese and English typography rules, and standardizing construction and text arrangement.[2]
The most significant visual change involved the initial letter “G.” Its form was redesigned with inspiration drawn from the recycling symbol, transforming three encircling arrows to reflect Ganfeng’s distinctive lithium recycling model and its commitment to sustainable development.[2] The cut-out notches created by the arrow transformation serve a dual purpose: they reference the Chinese character “锋” (meaning “edge” or “blade”) in the company name, conveying a sense of sharpness, ambition and pioneering spirit, while also suggesting “cutting edge” technology and the company’s drive to advance through innovation.[2] The openings also symbolize an open, inclusive attitude toward partnering with upstream and downstream collaborators in the lithium and new energy industries.[2]
Another notable change was the expansion of red coloring from the single letter “G” in the previous logo to the full word “Ganfeng” in the new version. This was intended to place greater emphasis on the Ganfeng brand and signal the company’s transition from a lithium compound producer to a lithium ecosystem enterprise, with subsidiaries across electronics, batteries and recycling all benefiting from stronger brand support.[2]
Meaning and Symbolism
The company has documented specific meanings for the two primary colors in its logo. Red represents the “fiery” entrepreneurial spirit of Ganfeng, characterized by sincerity, enthusiasm and fearlessness in the face of hardship. Green represents the company’s commitment to sustainable development and its mission of creating a green, clean and healthy life.[2]
The word “Lithium” remains green in the current logo, signifying the environmental benefits that the lithium industry brings to the world, including enabling electric vehicles, storing solar and wind energy, and reducing energy consumption in manufacturing processes.[2]
Typography and Design
The 2020 redesign unified the Chinese and English typography styles. The Chinese characters were made simpler and more fluid, with a lowered visual center of gravity to balance agility with solemnity. The English lettering was made more angular and robust to enhance a sense of technology and strength.[2] The company also stated that the new color palette was chosen to be softer, calmer and more dignified, suitable for large-scale applications without causing visual fatigue.[2]
