Hörnemann Verlag

Hörnemann Verlag was a German publishing house founded in Bonn in 1969 by Werner Hörnemann. It mainly released non-fiction books and was sold to the Oetker Group in 1990.

Hörnemann Verlag was a German publishing house founded in Bonn in 1969 by Werner Hörnemann, who had previously worked at Bertelsmann and founded the Mosaik-Verlag. The firm was registered in the commercial register at the Amtsgericht Bonn on 23 October 1969 under the name Werner Hörnemann, Verlag.[1] The publisher primarily released non-fiction books and operated from Bonn-Röttgen.[2]

Design and History

Documentation of the Hörnemann Verlag logo is limited. A single logo database entry attributes the design of the Hörnemann Verlag symbol to Rolf Bünermann in 1980.[3] However, this attribution is not corroborated by publisher records, book imprints, or other primary sources, and the database does not provide a visual description of the mark. The claim should therefore be treated with caution.

What is better documented is Bünermann’s broader role as a book designer active in the German publishing industry. He is credited with cover design (Einbandgestaltung) and typography work for several publishers, including Bertelsmann and the Mosaik Verlag, where Werner Hörnemann had worked before founding his own company.[4] Bünermann also served as German-language editor for craft books published by Hörnemann Verlag in the 1970s, such as Teppiche selbermachen (1974) and Makramee.[5]

In 1990, Werner Hörnemann sold his publishing house to the Oetker Group in Bielefeld and returned to writing.[2] The firm has since been deleted from the commercial register and is no longer active.[1]

Meaning and Symbolism

The only available description, from an unverified logo database, categorizes the mark as a line logo with a square shape, but provides no interpretation of its content or significance.[3]
