Elite Daily is an American online news and lifestyle platform founded in February 2012 by David Arabov, Jonathon Francis, and Gerard Adams, with a stated mission to speak to the Millennial generation.[1] The site has long used the slogan “The Voice of Generation Y.”[2] Since April 2017, Elite Daily has been owned by BDG (formerly Bustle Digital Group), which also operates Bustle, NYLON, Inverse, Mic, Romper, and other titles.[3]
Design and History
Elite Daily launched as a WordPress blog in early 2012 before growing into a full media operation.[4] In January 2015, the site was acquired by Daily Mail & General Trust for approximately $50 million.[5] Two years later, in April 2017, Daily Mail sold Elite Daily to Bustle Digital Group, which rebranded its parent company to reflect the expanded portfolio.[6]
In May 2021, Bustle Digital Group formally rebranded to BDG and unveiled a new corporate logo designed by the company’s in-house creative team. The announcement noted that BDG’s editorial brands, including Elite Daily, had undergone digital redesigns as part of the refresh.[7] The corporate rebrand was led by Karen Hibbert, then SVP of Creative at BDG, who described the new identity as “a much bolder aesthetic” that made “a nod to our past.”[7]
Elite Daily’s own wordmark has remained a typographic lockup, with the site’s current header using a bold condensed sans-serif typeface. Technical scans of the live site in 2023 show the Elite Daily masthead rendered in the Druk Bold web font.[8]
Typography and Design
The current Elite Daily wordmark is set in a bold, condensed sans-serif typeface, specifically the Druk family, as evidenced by the font file loaded on the site’s header.[8] The mark appears in black on white backgrounds, a treatment consistent with the site’s current presentation. No official documentation describes the wordmark’s color specifications, symbolism, or design rationale.
