News 24 is an Albanian 24-hour news television channel founded in 2002 in Tirana, Albania. It was the first Albanian channel of its kind, established by the Italian publishing company Edisud, and is part of the Focus Group media group, which also owns the daily newspaper Gazeta Shqiptare, the online portal Balkanweb.com, and radio News 24.[1][2]
Design and History
The News 24 logo is a wordmark-based identity that pairs the brand name with a graphic element. A vector file of the current logo, hosted on Wikimedia Commons, shows the mark rendered in a blue and red palette on a white background.[3]
In October 2017, the channel celebrated its 15th anniversary with a five-tier cake featuring the original News 24 logo, the mark with which the television station started in 2002.[4] At the same anniversary event, Irfan Hysenbelliu, President of Focus Media Group, described how the company’s policy had transformed News 24 into “a logo and an information window much loved by all Albanians.”[5]
In August 2025, following a police intervention and the occupation of the News 24 building by unidentified individuals, the physical logo signs of News 24, BalkanWeb, Gazeta Shqiptare, and Radio RASH were removed from the building’s facade, leaving it without any identifying marks.[6] The News 24 logo was taken by journalist Osman Stafa and placed on an improvised panel outside the building.[7]
Meaning and Symbolism
In the aftermath of the August 2025 events, Erl Murati, a journalist with the outlet, stated publicly that the News 24 logo is “public property” and a “symbol of freedom of expression,” arguing that the removal of the mark was intended to silence the critical television station.[8] Another journalist, identified only as Lala, remarked that News 24 “was a logo that Albanians were missing,” describing the channel as the largest informational television in the country.[9]
