BFM Régions is a French network of local news television channels, launched on 14 February 2019 as a subsidiary of Altice Média. The network groups together regional and local news channels under the BFM brand, including BFM Paris Île-de-France, BFM Lyon, BFM Grand Lille, BFM Grand Littoral, BFM DICI, BFM Marseille Provence, BFM Toulon Var, BFM Nice Côte d’Azur, BFM Alsace and BFM Normandie. The network was later renamed BFM Locales, with its director general Philippe Antoine referring to it as “BFM Locales (ex BFM Régions)” in September 2024. [1] [2]
Design and History
On 22 January 2020, BFM Paris and BFM Lyon adopted a new on-air look, developed internally from the graphic identity created by the agency Gédéon for BFM TV the previous autumn. The redesign moved away from 3D styling to flat design, with logos positioned in the top left of the screen and a white cartouche specifying the channel name. The dominant colour was described as a “pure and luminous blue,” intended to offer better visibility of on-screen information through a lighter visual layout. The work took about two months and differed only slightly from the original BFM TV model. [3]
When BFM Alsace launched on 28 June 2022, it replaced the acquired channel Alsace 20 with a new name, logo and on-air look, signalling the full integration of each new local channel into the BFM Régions visual system. [4]
For the 2024-2025 season, the ten local channels adopted a new on-air look with significantly more colour. According to Philippe Antoine, the new identity introduced “blue, green, orange, rounded shapes, cheerfulness,” while keeping the codes of a continuous news channel. The stated aim was a warmer, brighter presentation, in contrast to what Antoine described as overly negative and anxiety-inducing media coverage. [2] [5]
Meaning and Symbolism
The 2020 redesign was described by BFM TV as part of a general artistic direction characterised by flat design, for “fluid and effective signage.” The dominant blue was chosen as a “pure and luminous” colour serving as a backdrop for headlines, with the stated goal of offering better visibility of visual information through a lighter screen. [3]
The 2024 refresh explicitly introduced a broader colour palette, including blue, green and orange, with rounded shapes. Philippe Antoine framed this as a deliberate editorial and visual choice: “In our lives, not everything is grey,” explaining that the channels sought a balance between covering all news and not depressing viewers. Typography and Design
Documented typography details for the BFM Régions logos are limited. The 2020 redesign specified that channel names appeared in a white cartouche alongside the flat-design logo, but no specific typeface was publicly identified. The 2024 refresh introduced rounded shapes as part of the broader visual identity, though no typeface details were disclosed in available sources. [3] [2]
