Learning Express Toys, incorporated in 1987 as Learning Express, Inc., is a specialty toy, game and book retailer and franchisor headquartered in Devens, Massachusetts.[1] The company operates as a franchised retail toy store concept focused on quality and educational toys and gifts for children of all ages.[2]
Design and History
The current Learning Express Toys logo has been in use since 2005.[3] The mark consists of the word “Learning” in red, followed by the word “Express” in multiple colors: the first letter “E” in purple, the letter “X” in green, the letter “P” in pink, the letter “R” in blue, the second letter “E” in yellow, and the last two letters “S” in red. The word “Toys” appears in an oval with a green background and a blue border.[4] The colors red, purple, blue, pink, green, yellow and white are claimed as features of the mark.[4]
This wordmark was filed with the USPTO on December 31, 2009, with a first use date of March 1, 2003, and was registered on March 8, 2011.[5] An earlier logo iteration, used from 1987 to 2005, preceded the current design.[3]
In 2021, the company filed a separate trademark for “LEARNING EXPRESS TOYS & GIFTS,” which consists of the stylized wording “LEARNING EXPRESS” at left, followed by the stacked terms “TOYS” over “&” over “GIFTS” at right. That mark was registered on January 3, 2023, with a first use date of March 1, 2020.[6]
Meaning and Symbolism
The multicolored lettering in the Learning Express Toys logo is documented only through the trademark record, which describes the specific color arrangement of each letter and the green oval with blue border surrounding the word “Toys.”[4] No official source provides a documented explanation of symbolic meaning behind the color choices.
