The Tri-City Dust Devils are a Minor League Baseball team based in Pasco, Washington, and the High-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels in the Northwest League. The club was established in 2001 when the Portland Rockies relocated to the Tri-Cities region, adopting the Dust Devils name as a nod to the harmless whirlwinds that occur in the area’s farmlands.[1]
Design and History
The team’s visual identity has remained consistent since its 2001 founding. The primary logo features a stylized block “TC” mark on the cap, paired with a cartoon dust devil as an alternate emblem.[2] The mascot, named Dusty, is a cartoonization of the dust devil weather event and appears throughout the team’s branding.[1]
When the franchise relocated from Portland, the team initially intended to keep purple as its color, continuing its relationship with the Colorado Rockies. However, when the Dust Devils took the field, they wore navy and khaki instead. The colors were derived from the local topography of the Tri-Cities desert landscape.[3]
In 2026, the team released a commemorative logo for its 25th Anniversary Season. Designed by Ryan Foose of Fooser Sports Design, the emblem features the team’s official “TC” mark as its central foundation, surrounded by regional landmarks including the Gesa Stadium sunshade, the Columbia River, and the Horse Heaven Hills. The logo’s overall outline takes the shape of a home plate.[4]
Meaning and Symbolism
The team’s khaki and navy blue colors evoke the region’s blue skies, the dark navy blue of the Columbia River, and the soft brown of the area’s rolling hills.[1] The official team colors are described as deep navy blue and rustic khaki, chosen to represent the community’s distinctive desert surroundings.[4]
The Dust Devils name references the dust devils, or mini-tornado type whirlwinds, that occur in the region’s hot, dry climate.[3] The mascot Dusty, described as a “literal dust cloud,” serves as a “whirling dervish of dirt who stirs up enthusiasm and fun wherever he goes.”[5]
Typography and Design
The team’s cap insignia uses a stylized block “TC” letterform, which also serves as the central element in the 25th Season commemorative logo.[2][4] The commemorative cap features a golden-khaki bill and navy crown, with the khaki visor reminiscent of the team’s original road caps from the early 2000s.[6]
In 2023, the Dust Devils participated in Marvel’s “Defenders of the Diamond” initiative, one of 96 Minor League clubs to receive a Marvel-inspired logo for special jerseys and hats during the season.[7]
