Valencia Basket, the Spanish basketball club based in Valencia, has built its visual identity around a crest featuring a basketball, a bat, and the colors of the Valencian senyera. The club was founded on July 15, 1986, when local businessmen Juan and Fernando Roig reached an agreement with Valencia CF to acquire its basketball section.[1]
Design and History
The club’s primary kit was white for its first 14 seasons, shifting to orange from the year 2000 onward.[2] This orange identity led to the club’s widely used nickname, “Taronja” (orange in Valencian).
In December 2009, Valencia Basket released a new version of its official logo. The update incorporated the name of its sponsor, Power Electronics, at the bottom of the mark. The club also modernized the bat that crowns the central ball of its crest and changed some colors, with lines that were previously black becoming gray. The typography of the club name was also changed.[3]
For the 2016-17 season, the club’s 30th anniversary, Valencia Basket introduced a commemorative logo that replaced the official crest for the entire campaign. The design featured a symbolic 30 framing the club’s shield, part of the slogan “30 Anys Taronja.”[4] The graphic presented the number 30 in white on an orange background, with the club crest inside the zero.[5]
For the 2026-27 season, marking the club’s 40th anniversary, Valencia Basket again adapted its crest. The club incorporated the slogan “40 anys,” placed in the net with the colors of the Valencian senyera, through which the ball enters, crowned by a bat that presides over the emblem.[6] This new logo served as the club’s official competition crest for the 2026-27 season.[7]
Meaning and Symbolism
The bat is a central element of the Valencia Basket crest. The club describes the bat as a “characteristic element in the legend and symbolism of the city of Valencia.”[8] The bat also appears on the coat of arms of the city of Valencia, from which the club’s emblem derives this symbol.[9]
The senyera colors incorporated into the anniversary crest reference the flag of Valencia and the Valencian Community.[6]
