Kristianstad FC is a Swedish football club based in Kristianstad, Skåne, formed in 2015 through a merger of Kristianstads FF and Kristianstad BoIS.[1] The club’s official colors are orange and black.[1]
Design and History
Kristianstad FC was created when Kristianstads FF, itself formed in 1990 from a merger of Vilans BoIF and the football section of IFK Kristianstad, joined with Kristianstad BoIS, which had been established in 2007 from Kristianstads IS and Kristianstad BI.[1] The new club took over Kristianstads FF’s place in the league system.[1]
The club was originally intended to be named “1614 Kristianstad,” a reference to the year the city was founded. The Swedish Football Association changed its rules regarding club names, restricting the use of numbers to special cases, and the club was therefore named Kristianstad FC instead.[2]
When the newly merged club presented its kit in early 2016, it adopted an orange shirt.[3] The orange color was already associated with success in Kristianstad, following the achievements of the city’s handball club IFK Kristianstad in preceding years.[3] Several clubs in the city, including women’s team Kristianstads DFF, subsequently adopted orange as part of a broader collaborative effort among the city’s elite clubs.[3]
Meaning and Symbolism
The club’s orange and black colors are documented as its official club colors.[1] The choice of orange was explicitly tied to local identity: the color was linked in the Kristianstad region to success, following IFK Kristianstad’s handball achievements, and was adopted by the new football club as part of a city-wide “orange thread” initiative among elite clubs.[3]
