FK Viktoria Žižkov is a Czech football club based in the Prague district of Žižkov, founded in 1903. The club’s official colors are white and red, as stated on its own website.[1]
Design and History
The club was originally established in 1903 as Sportovní kroužek Viktoria Žižkov, later becoming SK Viktoria Žižkov in 1904.[2] After a series of name changes during the communist era, including Sokol Viktoria Žižkov (1950), Sokol ČSAD Žižkov (1951) and TJ Slavoj Žižkov (1952), the club returned to the Viktoria name in 1965 as TJ Viktoria Žižkov.[2] The current name, FK Viktoria Žižkov, dates from 1992.[2]
The club’s crest prominently displays the year 1903, referencing its founding date.[3] The club’s own website describes its badge as an integral part of the club’s identity, alongside its traditional chant.[4]
Red and white have been the club’s colors since its founding. When the club was established by students in 1903, they chose red and white striped shirts in honor of the colors of the Flag of Bohemia, and those colors remain in use today.[2]
Meaning and Symbolism
The red and white color scheme traces directly to the historical Flag of Bohemia, which the founding students chose to honor when selecting the team’s striped shirts in 1903.[2] The club’s official website confirms white and red as its club colors.[1]
The year 1903 displayed in the crest marks the founding of the original Sportovní kroužek Viktoria Žižkov, a heritage the club continues to emphasize even after its 1965 re-establishment under the Viktoria name.[3]
