The Football Association of Montenegro (Fudbalski savez Crne Gore, FSCG) is the governing body for football in Montenegro, based in Podgorica. The association was founded on 8 March 1931 in Cetinje as the Cetinje Football Subassociation, operating within the Yugoslav Football Association, and became a full UEFA member in January 2007.[1]
Design and History
The current FSCG logo features the acronym “FSCG” as its central text element, with a small bird figure positioned above the lettering.[2] The mark has been in use since the association’s early years following Montenegro’s independence in 2006, when the organization was established as an independent football body.[2]
In July 2026, the FSCG announced a public competition for a new visual identity and logo. The open brief requires a design featuring the acronym “FSCG” in both color and black-and-white versions, and asks for a modern, recognizable mark that reflects the association’s values, honors the heritage of the previous logo, and appeals to younger generations.[3] The competition ran until 1 September 2026, with a committee evaluating entries on recognition, relevance, originality, aesthetics, and applicability.[4]
Commentary in Montenegrin media has described the existing logo as a simple “FSCG” inscription with a “bubamara” (ladybug-like) figure on top, a design that critics argue may have sufficed in the early years of independence but now appears dated.[2]
Meaning and Symbolism
The Montenegro national team is nicknamed “Hrabri sokoli” (The Brave Falcons), a name that reflects the falcon as a cultural symbol in Montenegrin identity.[5] The bird figure atop the FSCG logo is consistent with this falcon association, though the FSCG has not published an official explanation of the logo’s symbolism. The association’s official colors are listed as red and gold by some football databases.[6]
