Football Australia

Football Australia is the governing body for football in Australia, formerly known as Football Federation Australia until November 2020. In 2018 it unveiled a new logo designed by Sydney agency Hulsbosch Design.

Football Australia is the governing body for the sport of football (soccer) in Australia. Formerly known as Football Federation Australia (FFA), the organisation adopted its current name in November 2020, a change unanimously approved by FFA members at the federation’s Annual General Meeting.[1]

Design and History

In September 2018, Football Federation Australia unveiled a new logo and brand designed by Sydney-based brand agency Hulsbosch Design.[2][3] The announcement came after a two-year development process that included consultation with more than 4,000 stakeholders across the game.[2] FFA Chief Executive David Gallop described the new identity as opening the way to reposition football as a top-tier sports brand and promote the whole of the game.[2]

In December 2019, Hulsbosch also designed a new coat of arms crest for Australia’s men’s and women’s national teams, the Socceroos and the Matildas. The crest was described as a “green and gold” coat of arms, with simplified forms coloured only in green and gold.[4][5] Hulsbosch Creative Director Benni Weller said of the design: “Though the design evokes memories of the past, the new modern version reflects the bold spirit of the teams and their fans.”[4] The Matildas supporter jersey featuring the new crest was released in 2019, with the Socceroos jersey debut following in 2020.[4]

Following the 2020 name change to Football Australia, the organisation has continued to work with Hulsbosch on related brand projects, including a refreshed visual identity for the MiniRoos youth participation program that combines “bold green and gold national colours” with vibrant graphic elements.[6]

Meaning and Symbolism

The 2018 FFA logo consists of three elements, which FFA Chief Marketing Officer Luke Bould said represent “the three key things that set football apart, its atmosphere, diversity and ability to unify and connect us to the rest of the world.”[2] The design was intended to build one brand across the whole sport, creating greater connection, belonging and awareness.[2]

The national team crest uses Australia’s traditional sporting colours of green and gold, a palette that has been carried through subsequent Football Australia brand work.[4][6]

Typography and Design

In June 2025, Football Australia launched a new brand platform called “Forever Golden” for the Socceroos, developed with M+C Saatchi Group AUNZ. Central to the campaign is a new visual identity created in partnership with creative studio Ooft, featuring a custom wordmark described as capturing “the kinetic rhythm of a flag in motion,” symbolising movement, pride, and a team powered by its people.[7][8] The platform was designed to reposition the Socceroos as a contemporary cultural force rather than a nostalgic symbol of past achievements.[7]
