Kategoria e Parë (First Category) is the second tier of professional football in Albania, organized by the Albanian Football Association (FSHF). Its visual identity is part of a coordinated “Brand Umbrella” system introduced by the federation to create coherence across all Albanian football symbols.
Design and History
In May 2017, the Albanian Football Association presented new brands for the First, Second, and Third Categories, extending a visual renewal that had already been applied to the Kategoria Superiore and the Albanian Cup. The federation’s stated strategy was to offer a coordinated and integrated image, curated in details, through a “Brand Umbrella” approach that guaranteed coherence and similarity across every symbol of Albanian football.[1]
The Kategoria e Parë logo was described by Gazmend Malo, Head of the Marketing Department at FSHF, as showing a strong connection between national elements and football elements, similar to the logos of FSHF and the Superiore category.[2] The design consists of a shield with a red background and black outline, in respect of the national colors. Inside the shield is a stylized football in motion, intended to give a dynamic image. The ball is depicted with the wings of the Eagle, colored in black, and below it appears the label “First Category” along with the acronym of the Albanian Football Association (FSHF).[1]
Following the logo renewal, FSHF also introduced an official match ball for Kategoria e Parë games in August 2017. The yellow ball carried both the Kategoria e Parë and FSHF logos, along with red and black double-headed eagle markings.[3]
Meaning and Symbolism
The red and black color combination in the Kategoria e Parë logo directly references Albania’s national colors, as stated by FSHF when presenting the new brand.[1] The eagle wings on the football are a national element shared with the FSHF and Superiore logos, reinforcing the visual connection between the federation, the top division, and the second tier.[4] The stylized football in motion was designed to convey a dynamic image.[2]
