Kategoria e Tretë is the fourth tier of Albania’s football league system, operated under the Albanian Football Association (FSHF).[1] The league’s visual identity is part of a coordinated “Brand Umbrella” system introduced by the FSHF in May 2017, when the federation presented new logos for the First, Second and Third Categories as part of a broader renewal of its image.[2]
Design and History
The current Kategoria e Tretë logo was unveiled on 10 May 2017 by the FSHF, alongside new marks for the Kategoria e Parë and Kategoria e Dytë.[3] The federation described the step as planned from the start of its image renewal, which had already produced new branding for the Superliga and the Albanian Cup. The stated strategy was to offer a coordinated and integrated image through a “Brand Umbrella” that would guarantee coherence and similarity across all symbols of Albanian football.[2]
According to the FSHF’s official description, the Third Category logo represents a full refreshment of composing elements. While it preserves the stylistic elements of the logos and brands that preceded it, the combination is described as a pleasant and “autonomous” result, faithful to its identity.[3]
Meaning and Symbolism
The FSHF’s official description details the logo’s construction and documented symbolism:
- Shield: The shield is similar to the shield in the FSHF logo, with a white background to allow easier placement of the included elements.[2]
- Red outline: The shield’s contour is red, while the ball is dominant in the logo with black and white detailing. The black color of the ball brings back the red-and-black combination.[3]
- Three stars: Below the label stripe sit three stars, described by the FSHF as a symbol of the Third Category.[2]
- FSHF acronym: The acronym of the Albanian Football Association appears in capital letters in the top half of the logo.[3]
The red-and-black palette connects to Albania’s national colors, a motif the FSHF explicitly referenced in its descriptions of the championship logos.[2]
Typography and Design
The label “KATEGORIA E TRETË” appears in capital letters and is dominant in the bottom half of the logo, placed on a stripe that overlaps the ball and shield.[3] The FSHF acronym is also rendered in capital letters in the top half.[2] The federation’s marketing department head, Gazmend Malo, provided the official explanations of each logo’s elements at the time of the unveiling.[4]
