Kategoria e Dytë is the third tier of professional football in Albania’s league system, organized by the Albanian Football Federation (FSHF).[1] The league’s visual identity is part of a coordinated “Brand Umbrella” system introduced by the FSHF to create coherence and similarity across all symbols of Albanian football.[2]
Design and History
In May 2017, the FSHF presented new brands for the First, Second, and Third Categories, a step planned since the federation renewed its own image with a new brand that had already been applied to the SuperLiga and the Albanian Cup.[2] The strategy was described by Gazmend Malo, Head of the Marketing Department at FSHF, as a “Brand Umbrella” approach intended to guarantee coherence and similarity in every symbol of Albanian football.[2]
According to the FSHF’s official description, the Kategoria e Dytë logo preserves the stylistic elements of the logos and brands that preceded it, but presents them in a refreshed manner with renewed details and treatment of elements.[3] The shield features rounded corners and softer lines, and the color combination gives way to a half-red, half-white background, with white and black lines dominating the bottom half of the logo.[3]
The label “KATEGORIA E DYTË” in capital letters is dominant in the top half of the logo, with the FSHF acronym above it, accompanied by two stars.[3] The two stars serve as a distinguishing element for the Second Category, just as three stars symbolize the Third Category in its corresponding logo.[3]
Meaning and Symbolism
The FSHF’s official announcement explains that the red and black color combination used across the league logos respects Albania’s national colors.[2] In the Kategoria e Dytë mark specifically, the half-red, half-white shield background and the dominant white and black lines in the lower portion continue this national color scheme while giving the Second Category its own distinct composition within the broader FSHF brand family.[3]
Typography and Design
The FSHF’s official description notes that the league name “KATEGORIA E DYTË” is rendered in capital letters and placed dominantly in the top half of the logo.[3] The FSHF acronym also appears in capital letters above the league name.[3] The shield itself is described as having rounded corners and softer lines compared to earlier versions, reflecting the refreshed treatment of the design elements.[3]
