Kategoria Superiore, Albania’s top professional football league, is organized by the Albanian Football Federation (FSHF) and is currently branded as Abissnet Superiore for sponsorship reasons.[1] The league’s visual identity is managed centrally by the FSHF as part of a coordinated “Brand Umbrella” strategy that applies consistent design elements across all Albanian football competitions.[2]
Design and History
In May 2015, the FSHF presented new logos and branding for Kategoria Superiore and the Albanian Cup to representatives of the league’s clubs.[3] The new brand was officially launched in August 2015 ahead of the 2015-2016 season, described by the FSHF as the foundational element of the competitions’ image.[4]
The rebranding was part of a larger initiative that began with the renewal of the FSHF’s own identity, aimed at repositioning and improving the overall image of Albanian football.[4] The project was supported by UEFA and carried out by an international agency partnered with that institution.[4]
In May 2017, the FSHF presented new logos for the lower divisions (First, Second, and Third Categories), noting that the Superiore logo was not changed at that time.[5] The federation explained that this step had been planned since the initial renewal of the FSHF image, which had previously given life to the Kategoria Superiore and Albanian Cup brands.[6]
Meaning and Symbolism
According to the FSHF’s official description of its championship logos, the Kategoria Superiore mark shares a strong connection between national elements and football elements, consistent with the FSHF logo and the federation’s “Brand Umbrella” strategy.[2] The design language across the FSHF competition logos incorporates a shield with a red background and black outline, described by the federation as a mark of respect for Albania’s national colors.[2]
The federation’s official description of the First Category logo, which it states shares elements with the Superiore and FSHF logos, describes a stylized moving football depicted with the wings of the eagle in black, intended to give a dynamic image.[2] The eagle wings reference Albania’s national symbol, which also appears on the country’s flag.[7]
Typography and Design
The FSHF’s official descriptions of its competition logos note that category labels are rendered in capital letters, with the acronym of the Albanian Football Association (FSHF) included as a standard element.[2] The federation has not published specific typography details or exact color specifications for the Kategoria Superiore logo.
