The Mississippi Braves, also known as the M-Braves, were the Double-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves, playing in Pearl, Mississippi, a suburb of Jackson, from 2005 through 2024. The team’s visual identity was built around the state of Mississippi and the parent club’s established branding, and it remained in use until the franchise relocated to Columbus, Georgia, after the 2024 season.
Design and History
The Mississippi Braves identity was adopted in 2005 when the franchise moved to Trustmark Park in Pearl, ending a five-year absence of professional baseball in Central Mississippi. The team was owned and operated by the Atlanta Braves at that time. [1]
The primary logo featured a gold contour of the state of Mississippi with a navy blue drop shadow. The “Braves” wordmark with a tomahawk was superimposed over the contour, with a navy blue star denoting the location of Pearl centered above. A white box with “Mississippi” was centered toward the top of the contour. [2] The design borrowed the visual core of the Atlanta Braves emblem, including a red tomahawk with gold and dark blue elements and a scripted “Braves” wordmark, placed over the outline of Mississippi. [3]
In 2019, the team revealed a commemorative 15th season logo designed by M-Braves Graphic Design Manager Garrett Steiger. The logo featured the Roman numeral XV alongside the primary club logo representing the state of Mississippi. [1]
The Mississippi Braves announced in 2024 that they would relocate to Columbus, Georgia, following the 2024 season. [4] The franchise was rebranded as the Columbus Clingstones, a new identity designed by Dan Simon of Louisville-based Studio Simon. The Clingstones name and logo set pay tribute to the clingstone peach, a variety that clings to its pit, with a peach-themed color scheme. [5]
Meaning and Symbolism
The Mississippi Braves logo combined regional and organizational identity. The state of Mississippi contour anchored the mark geographically, while the navy blue star marked the location of Pearl, the team’s home. The “Braves” wordmark and tomahawk imagery directly referenced the parent Atlanta Braves, creating visual continuity between the major league club and its Double-A affiliate. [2] [3]
Typography and Design
The logo used a scripted “Braves” wordmark consistent with the Atlanta Braves’ emblem, set above a red tomahawk with gold and dark blue elements. The design was placed over the outline of the state of Mississippi, distinguishing the minor league mark from the parent club’s logo. [3] The team’s colors were documented as red, white, blue, and gold. [6]
