NK Tabor Sežana is a Slovenian football club from the town of Sežana, established in 1923.[1] The club’s visual identity centers on a crest that includes the year 1923, a date that is symbolic rather than a direct founding date: the original youth club Tabor-Sežana was founded that year within youth associations from Trieste, but was banned by Italian fascist authorities in 1927, and organized football in Sežana only resumed after 1945.[2]
Design and History
The club’s traditional colors are red and black, reflected in its nickname “Rdeče-črni” (The Red-Blacks).[3] Historical kit records from 2008 describe Tabor Sežana playing in black and red striped shirts with white shorts and socks.[4]
The club’s history includes several organizational changes that affected its identity. After going bankrupt in 2004, the club restarted at the bottom of the league system under the name Mladinsko nogometno društvo Tabor (Youth Football Society Tabor).[2] The club later returned to the name Nogometni klub Tabor Sežana.[1]
The club’s official website describes the organization as a society in the public interest with a professionalized senior team, supported by a global group of investors under the “Tabor United” project.[5]
Meaning and Symbolism
The year 1923 displayed in the club’s crest is documented as symbolic. According to a detailed history of the club published by Nogomania, the date refers to the founding of the original youth club Tabor-Sežana, but the crest’s year does not represent continuous club operation since that date, as the club was banned in 1927 and later re-established.[2]
