Oklahoma Christian Eagles and Lady Eagles

The Oklahoma Christian Eagles and Lady Eagles are the intercollegiate athletic teams of Oklahoma Christian University in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The university adopted a new identity in 2002 and introduced a university-wide rebrand designed by the studio Switch in 2019.

The Oklahoma Christian Eagles and Lady Eagles are the intercollegiate athletic teams of Oklahoma Christian University (OC), a private Christian university in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The university’s “Eagles” athletic mascot originated in 1952-53, two years after the school’s founding as a junior college, and the mascot name draws from Isaiah 40:31, which has served as a theme verse for the university.[1] OC’s official colors of maroon and silver gray were selected by vote of the student body.[1]

Design and History

OC’s athletics logo package consists of four primary elements: an eagle head, a stylized treatment of the word “Eagles,” an “OC” mark, and an “Oklahoma Christian University” wordmark. These logos serve as the official marks for all of OC’s athletic teams.[2]

In 2002, Oklahoma Christian University adopted a new identity with two new logos chosen after years of deliberation by school officials. The logos were designed by Michael O’Keefe & Associates Inc., whose creative director, Michael O’Keefe, also served as chairman of Oklahoma Christian’s art and design department. O’Keefe produced a corporate branding package of 12 designs from which officials could choose.[3]

In 2019, OC introduced a new university-wide identity designed by the strategic branding studio Switch, working closely with alumnus Scott Hill. The rebrand replaced the previous logo after 18 years of use.[4] The new “OC” logomark was described in OC’s brand guidelines as “stylistically inspired by Oklahoma Christian’s mid-century roots” and standing as “a timeless and solid visual anchor of the Oklahoma Christian visual identity.”[4] The rebrand also introduced a new tagline, “the world awaits your story.”[4]

Typography and Design

The official font of OC Athletics is Standard MedCond (Mac) and Zurich XCn BT (PC). This font is used in the “Oklahoma Christian University” wordmark that is part of the OC Athletics logo package. The athletic department specified a generic “athletic block” font as the preferred alternative whenever the official fonts cannot be used.[2]

The official colors for OC Athletics are Maroon, Silver, Tan, Black and White. OC’s primary maroon color is a custom, darker hue of PMS 195, achieved by adding 20% more black to the standard PMS 195 formula. The official color values were revised in May 2008.[2]
