TOP Oss is a Dutch professional football club based in Oss, North Brabant, competing in the Eerste Divisie. The club was founded on April 9, 1928, and its official name is “Tot Ons Plezier Oss.”[1] The club’s colors are red and white.[2]

Design and History

The current TOP Oss crest was introduced on July 1, 2018, when the club reverted from FC Oss back to its original name TOP Oss.[3] The club had been known as FC Oss since the 2009-2010 season, when the name change was made to distinguish the professional branch from the amateur section.[4]

Supporters were involved throughout the design process for the new crest. After consultation with a delegation from the supporters’ association De Trouwe Oss, five options were presented, and all supporters were allowed to vote for their favorite. A majority of 55 percent chose the winning design.[5] According to the club, the new logo “does justice to the complete history, but clearly stands for a new period.”[3]

All building blocks of the old TOP Oss logo, including the shield, the letters T and P, the ball, and the small flag, were restyled. The crest took on the shape of the then-current FC Oss emblem.[5] The design was developed by an advertising agency, with supporters providing inspiration before the final vote.[6]

Meaning and Symbolism

The club’s traditional red and white colors were fixed requirements for the new logo design. When the design process was announced, a club spokesperson stated, “The colors red and white are fixed, of course, but nothing more.”[2] The winning design was described as featuring a “classic white-red block stripe design.”[3]

The club’s home shirts have consistently used the traditional red and white stripes associated with the people of Oss.[7] The away kit uses yellow and blue, described as “the colors of the city of Oss.”[5]
