Digiturk is a Turkish digital satellite television platform founded in 1999, offering entertainment and sports packages to subscribers.[1] The platform’s visual identity has undergone two significant changes since its launch, first in 2011 and again in 2017 when its in-house channels were consolidated under the beIN brand.
Design and History
Digiturk’s first logo, used from 1999 to 2011, consisted of the word “Digitürk” written entirely in capital letters in an expanded sans-serif typeface, accompanied by a red elliptical band.[2] This early mark served the platform through its first decade of operation.
In February 2011, Digiturk announced a logo change, launching the new identity at an event at the Istanbul Marriott Hotel.[3] The company began using the new logo on 1 March 2011.[4] The redesign was driven by a new brand personality that required a new visual identity.[2] The new mark was built from rings of different sizes, a visual solution intended to reflect the variety of Digiturk’s programming and the emotions it evokes in viewers.[5] The identity was developed around a concept called “Digiland,” a flexible brand system designed to work across multiple screens and devices.[5]
In 2017, following beIN MEDIA GROUP’s acquisition of Digiturk, the platform’s in-house channels were rebranded under the beIN name. Lig TV became beIN SPORTS, and film, series, food and documentary channels were consolidated under the beIN umbrella with new names and logos.[6] This change affected the channel brands rather than the Digiturk platform mark itself.
Meaning and Symbolism
The 2011 logo’s use of different-sized rings was a deliberate design choice: the varying circles represent the diversity of Digiturk’s programming, with each ring standing for a different type of content or emotional response.[7] The visual language was described as bringing the “Digiland” concept to life through rings “alive with the emotions of the viewer,” forming an identity as varied as Digiturk’s programming.[5]
