Euskaltel is a Spanish telecommunications operator based in the Basque Country, founded in 1995. The company’s visual identity has undergone two significant redesigns, with the current logo in use since 26 March 2018.[1]
Design and History
Euskaltel’s first logo was replaced in December 2006, when the company rebranded and adopted a new mark depicting a stylized orange-coloured butterfly.[1] That butterfly design was itself based on the letter “k”, a letter closely associated with Basque culture and the Basque language, Euskera.[2] The 2006 rebrand also changed the wordmark to all lowercase letters, rendering the name as “euskaltel”.[1]
The second logo, used from 10 December 2006 to 25 March 2018, was replaced by the company’s third and current logo on 26 March 2018.[1] The current identity is offered in both circular and horizontal versions, as shown in the company’s official press room image gallery.[3]
Meaning and Symbolism
The orange colour has been a consistent element of the Euskaltel identity across its redesigns. During the 2006 rebrand, company leadership stated, “We are more orange than ever and more Basque than ever”, explicitly retaining the orange colour as a corporate signature.[2] The butterfly symbol introduced in 2006 was designed around the letter “k”, chosen for its strong association with Basque culture and the Euskera language.[2]
Typography and Design
At the time of the 2006 redesign, the previous condensed typography was replaced with a lighter, more stylized typeface.[2] The current logo continues to use the lowercase “euskaltel” wordmark established in that rebrand.[1]
