Cityfone Telecommunications Inc. is a Canadian cellular network service reseller that was acquired by Rogers Communications in 2010 for CAD$26 million. The company operates as a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO), providing services through the Rogers Wireless network under several brand names, including Cityfone, Primus Wireless, Zoomer Wireless, and SimplyConnect.[1]
Design and History
Cityfone was founded in 1997 by Dejan Mirkovic, Donald Roth, and Mark Reid.[2] On July 9, 2010, Rogers Wireless reached an agreement to acquire the assets of Cityfone for cash consideration of $26 million. At the time of acquisition, Cityfone served approximately 44,000 postpaid subscribers through private label programs with major Canadian brands.[3]
The Cityfone logo is a text-based wordmark. Vector files of the logo are available in SVG format, and the mark can be rendered in black or white versions depending on the background context.[4] A higher-resolution PNG version of the logo is also distributed, sized at 2500×2500 pixels.[5]
In November 2023, Rogers began redirecting Zoomer Wireless customers to a dealer partner, while stating that all Cityfone customers, including SimplyConnect and Zoomer Wireless subscribers, could continue to use their services and make changes to their price plans.[6]
Meaning and Symbolism
The wordmark approach reflects the company’s function as a service reseller rather than a network operator, and the multi-brand structure under Cityfone’s corporate umbrella is well documented.[1] No official source provides a documented explanation of specific colors, iconography, or design intent behind the mark.
