Teletalk Bangladesh Limited, the state-owned mobile operator of Bangladesh, introduced its current visual identity in March 2016 as part of a broader rebranding initiative. The new logo and website were unveiled by Tarana Halim, then state minister for telecom, at a ceremony at Bashundhara Convention City in Dhaka.[1]
Design and History
Teletalk’s 2016 rebranding was driven by a need to reverse the operator’s flagging fortunes and make it competitive in Bangladesh’s mobile market.[2] The state minister for telecom acknowledged that a lack of brand image was a major weakness for Teletalk, noting that private operators spent heavily on branding while Teletalk had never done so.[3]
The rebranding process began months earlier. In November 2015, Tarana Halim selected one of two new logo designs presented to her by Teletalk officials at a meeting in her office. The chosen design was then sent to the prime minister’s ICT adviser for evaluation before final approval by Teletalk’s board.[3]
Alongside the new logo, Teletalk adopted the slogan “Connect to Happiness,” replacing its earlier tagline “Amader Phone” (Our Phone).[1] The Bengali version of the slogan was rendered as “Swapna Hasimukher” (Dream a Smiling Face).[4]
Meaning and Symbolism
Official sources do not provide a detailed explanation of the symbolism behind the 2016 logo’s abstract form. The rebranding was described by officials as aimed at reviving the telecom operator and making it competitive, with the new logo intended to be more attractive to potential subscribers.[2][5] The slogan “Connect to Happiness” accompanied the visual change, framing the identity around customer experience rather than a specific graphic narrative.[1]
