Türk Telekom is Turkey’s first integrated telecommunications operator, with a corporate history tracing back more than 180 years to the establishment of the Post Office in 1840. In January 2016, the company unified its mobile, internet, phone and TV products and services under the single “Türk Telekom” brand, retiring the Avea and TTNET sub-brands and introducing a new logo and corporate identity to mark the change.[1]
Design and History
The current Türk Telekom logo was introduced on 26 January 2016 at a press event in Antalya, where CEO Rami Aslan presented the new mark alongside the announcement that Avea, TTNET and Türk Telekom would operate under a single brand.[2] The company described the logo as the culmination of a two-year integration process that began in 2014.[3]
The previous Türk Telekom logo had been in use since 2004, when the company separated from PTT following privatization.[4] The 2016 redesign was reported to be the product of a year-long effort by Interbrand, an international branding consultancy with offices in 25 countries.[4]
According to the company’s announcement, the new logo was designed to reflect the merged entity’s agility, energy and dynamic character. The mark was described as symbolizing the coming together of the three former brands, representing unity and harmony.[5] The rollout began on the evening of 26 January 2016, when stores, headquarters buildings, offices, signage, vehicles and staff uniforms across Turkey were updated with the new identity overnight.[5]
Meaning and Symbolism
Türk Telekom stated that the colors in the new logo were drawn from the company’s own strengths. According to the official description, green represents a lively, energetic and agile structure; orange/red represents courage and imagination; and the bright blue associated with Türk Telekom represents reliability and a deep-rooted history.[6]
The company also described the logo as embodying the energy, innovation and spirit of progress that Türk Telekom would bring to Turkey, with the combination of colors forming a mosaic that reflects diversity, versatility and innovation.[5] CEO Rami Aslan characterized the logo as a symbol of the company’s ambition to bring the power of its fiber network to everyone.[4]
