Meaning and history

The Michael Kors identity centers on two forms: the MICHAEL KORS wordmark and a circular monogram built from the interlaced initials M and K. They can be displayed separately or together, giving the name a full-word treatment and a compact emblem. Michael Kors founded the label in 1981, but that date should not be read as the monogram’s origin. Capri Holdings identifies Michael Kors among the brands whose tradenames, trademarks and logos it owns (Capri Holdings filing).
1981 – Today

This stage shows the initials joined within a thick circular border. The image is labeled 1981, the year the label was founded, but Vogue Italia traces the Signature monogram to the autumn/winter 2000 season and describes its introduction for the accessories line in 2004. The publication links the design to Michael Kors’s signature and an improvised sketch; this is a reported account, not a verified 1981 design date (Vogue Italia).
2006 – Today

Here the full name appears in black capitals on one line, without the circular initials. The heading’s 2006 date is an archive label, not a documented redesign date. The wordmark’s broad, unadorned letterforms make the name readable where the monogram would provide only initials.
MK symbol
The M and K share a compact, angular arrangement inside the ring. Vogue Italia also reports that the MK graphic returned in the MICHAEL Michael Kors Signature collection for spring/summer 2021, illustrating its use as a recurring brand device (Vogue Italia).
Wordmark emblem

Despite the heading, this image shows the circular MK emblem rather than a wordmark: the initials appear in green within a matching ring. Compared with the black-and-white monogram above, the color changes while the basic initials-and-circle arrangement remains recognizable.
Font

This specimen compares a larger MICHAEL line with a smaller MICHAEL KORS line. Both use heavy uppercase sans-serif lettering; the display is a visual comparison, not documentation of a named typeface or an official typography specification.
Color

This image shows the MK initials on a dark circular field, surrounded by a gold-toned rim set with clear stones. It is a decorative badge treatment, distinct from the flat wordmark and simple ring-and-initials examples elsewhere on the page.
