The NICO wordmark

NICO’s logo is a wordmark made from the four uppercase letters of its name. The archive artwork shows the letters without a separate symbol or accompanying phrase. One rendition places dark lettering against a black field, while another uses black lettering on white. The contrast changes, but both images present the same four-letter name.

The images show the mark’s appearance, not its typeface or design history. No designer, font or logo-redesign date is identified in the cited coverage. NICO was founded in Brisbane in 2012 by Lis Harvey as an intimates label; Broadsheet’s coverage describes the brand’s later move into leisurewear in 2020 (Broadsheet).

This archive stage pairs the wordmark with a white field, making the black letters clearly legible. The heading is retained as the archive label; it does not by itself establish that this rendition is in current use. The brand’s documented milestones include its 2020 leisurewear debut and a change of ownership in 2024, when Kimberley Caines acquired NICO and moved the business from Brisbane to Fyshwick, Canberra (Broadsheet; HerCanberra).

HerCanberra describes NICO’s understated, clean-lined approach to clothing, but that brand-level language does not establish a meaning for the logo. In an interview with The Undone, Harvey said sustainability was not her original aim and that she wanted to make good underwear (The Undone). The wordmark itself remains visually spare in both archive renditions: the name, with no additional graphic element.
