Meaning and history
The Birmingham Bowl is an annual college American football postseason game first played in Birmingham, Alabama, on December 23, 2006. The NCAA records its early PapaJohns.com Bowl name and later title changes in its bowl chronology. Its logo history follows those naming partnerships: sponsor names and marks repeatedly took a prominent place in the bowl badge.

2006 – 2008

The artwork uses a compact PapaJohns.com banner over a green “Bowl” ribbon, with a football rising above the layered badge. PapaJohns.com was the bowl’s title name in its early years, although this stage’s archive label does not align with the broader documented sponsor chronology.
2010

This version makes the Papa John’s name much larger, with “Pizza” above it and “Bowl” below. A small football sits within the lower banner, which also names Birmingham, Alabama. The NCAA chronology records the change to BBVA Compass sponsorship for the following bowl seasons.
2011 – 2014

The BBVA Compass Bowl badge replaces the red-and-green sponsor treatment with a blue-and-silver design. “BBVA Compass” spans the central banner above the large word “Bowl,” while a football forms the crest’s upper point. BBVA Compass’s sponsorship ran through the January 2014 game, as CBS Sports reported.
2015

With the bowl returning to its own name, the crest gives “Birmingham” and “Bowl” separate, prominent lines. A football and skyline silhouette occupy the top; stars line the lower blue edge. The phrase “Southern Hospitality. Serious Football.” appears beneath the main name.
2015

This related 2015 lockup adds a large “15” behind the football while retaining the red Birmingham banner, bold Bowl lettering and lower slogan. It is a more vertical arrangement of the same core elements.
2016 – 2017

The archive’s 2016–2017 badge returns to the simpler crest without the oversized “15.” Its skyline, football, red name banner and blue lower shield continue the sponsor-free Birmingham Bowl presentation.
2018

For the 2018 edition, the Jared name appears above the crest, giving the sponsor a distinct top panel while the Birmingham Bowl shield remains below. Jared was the title sponsor for that edition, according to AL.com’s sponsor history.
2020

The TicketSmarter version places the sponsor name across a red banner above “Birmingham Bowl.” The football and skyline remain, but the surrounding crest is simplified into a flat blue-and-white shield. The bowl announced TicketSmarter as title sponsor in 2019, ahead of the January 2020 game, in its announcement.
2021

This stage rearranges the TicketSmarter badge into a narrower shield and adds a small anniversary treatment along the bottom. The sponsor banner and football-and-skyline elements remain, while the lower text becomes more compact.
2022 – Today

The artwork under this heading shows the TicketSmarter shield, with the red sponsor banner above the blue Birmingham Bowl nameplate. It is a historical stage, not the current identity: title sponsorship later went to 76 for 2023, the 2024 game had no title sponsor, and JLab was named title sponsor in 2025. The ESPN Events announcement identifies JLab as the 2025 partner.
Current identity
JLab became the Birmingham Bowl’s title sponsor in 2025, following the single-edition 76 partnership in 2023, as reported by AL.com and confirmed in the ESPN Events release. The supplied timeline ends with the TicketSmarter artwork, so it does not show a JLab-sponsored mark.
