FunFair is a blockchain-based gaming platform that launched its FUN token through an initial coin offering in June 2017. The project was created by FunFair Technologies to build a decentralized, Ethereum-based casino gaming platform where smart contracts ensure verifiable fairness and direct payouts to players. The FUN token is the proprietary ERC-20 cryptocurrency used throughout the ecosystem. The official website for the token is funtoken.io, while the original project site is funfair.io. [1] [2]
Design and History
In February 2023, FunFair Games, the studio arm of the company, unveiled a new branding and logo designed to modernize the company’s brand vision, personality and identity. The rebrand was introduced as part of the studio’s growth plans for 2023, reinforcing its goal to become a leading premium supplier of next-generation gaming content. [3] [4]
According to Mark McGinley, CEO of FunFair Games at the time, the rebrand was intended to strengthen the company’s identity, showcase its personality and better represent its forward-thinking approach in a saturated market. The new look was revealed as the studio prepared to deliver a host of new games in 2023 with a more diverse portfolio of mechanics and features. [3]
The rebrand was also accompanied by several new senior appointments, including Martti Poom as the studio’s new art director, which suggests an increased focus on creative direction and visual identity. [4]
Prior to the 2023 rebrand, the FunFair cryptocurrency logo was widely distributed as a vector icon in cryptocurrency logo collections. The icon was tagged with descriptors such as “icon,” “cryptocurrency,” “money” and “fun” in logo databases, and was added to the Worldvectorlogo repository in October 2017. [5] [6]
An unofficial icon for FunFair was created by Christopher Downer as part of his open-source Cryptocurrency Icons pack, released under a CC0 public domain license. This icon is a community-created asset rather than an official brand mark. [7]
Meaning and Symbolism
Documented symbolism for the FunFair logo is limited. The 2023 rebrand was described by the company as modernizing its brand vision, personality and identity, with the goal of positioning FunFair Games as a premium provider of non-traditional gaming content. The company stated the new identity was designed to help it “stand out from the crowd in a saturated market.” [3]
The earlier cryptocurrency-era mark was distributed primarily as a functional icon for exchanges and wallets rather than as a brand identity with published design rationale.
