Okcoin was a cryptocurrency exchange founded in 2013, serving customers in more than 190 countries and territories before it was retired as a brand in favor of OKX.[1] The exchange announced in October 2023 that it would discontinue the Okcoin brand and transition to OKX, beginning with Singapore, the European Union, and finally the United States.[2] Okcoin Europe Ltd. rebranded to OKX in April 2024,[3] and the U.S. entity followed in April 2025, with existing Okcoin customers migrated to the OKX platform.[4] All Okcoin trading services and APIs were turned off as of May 15, 2025.[5]
Design and History
Okcoin introduced a new logo in April 2021, described by the company as a tribute to dualism by representing both ancient coins and the creation of crypto assets.[6] The new mark was designed to bring together the past and future of money.[7]
The design agency Cōlab documented its work on the identity, noting that it maintained Okcoin’s original foundational shape of the circle and added a lens of ancient coins. The agency brought the concept into a digital realm by adding a pixel/bit element, creating what it described as a literal “bit”coin for the logomark.[8]
An earlier version of the Okcoin mark, filed as a trademark with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, consisted of the word “okcoin” in lower-case letters. To the left of the word was a solid circle containing four thin equal-sized rectangles, two vertical and two horizontal, arranged to form a square in the center.[9]
Meaning and Symbolism
The 2021 logo was explicitly framed around the concept of dualism, pairing ancient coin imagery with digital “bits” to symbolize the evolution of money from physical to digital forms.[6][7] Cōlab described the resulting logomark as a literal “bit”coin, combining the circular coin shape with a pixel element.[8]
