Zipmex is a Singapore-based digital asset and cryptocurrency exchange founded in 2018 by Marcus Lim.[1] The company’s visual identity has been shaped by two distinct branding engagements, one for regional expansion and another for the Australian market.
Design and History
In May 2021, Zipmex appointed the creative agency TSLA to manage brand strategy, positioning and design duties, with work expected to roll out in the second half of that year across Southeast Asia and Australia.[2] TSLA’s managing partner Sorcha John noted at the time that the crypto sector had not yet found a common design language beyond “the coin,” and that Zipmex had asked the agency to “embed our creativity into its business to build a global brand out of Asia.”[2]
Separately, the Australian creative agency TOAST developed a brand strategy for Zipmex’s entry into the Australian marketplace. TOAST conducted an analysis of the international and local cryptocurrency and financial marketplaces and engaged senior business leaders across management, marketing and product development to understand Zipmex’s vision and growth trajectory.[3] The agency developed a more Australian-friendly brand positioning and visual design to support the business’s launch and ongoing growth, while ensuring alignment with the larger global positioning so the brand would not become disjointed across international markets.[3] This work led to the creation of the brand platform “Enriching Everyday Australians.”[3]
Meaning and Symbolism
The brand name itself is a portmanteau, fusing “Zip,” evoking speed and efficiency, with “Mex,” a common abbreviation for “exchange.”[4] This naming concept positions Zipmex as a conduit for value rather than merely a trading platform.[4]
The company’s current website presents Zipmex as a professional-grade DeFi aggregator with a focus on on-chain settlement on Solana, but it does not describe the logo’s visual elements or their meaning.[5]
Typography and Design
The logo is available in standard vector formats including PNG, SVG, AI and EPS for identification and reference purposes.[6] The current Zipmex website uses a clean, modern sans-serif presentation for the brand name, but no typographic specification has been published by the company or its branding agencies.
