Applied Materials, Inc. is a Santa Clara, California-based company that supplies semiconductor manufacturing equipment and materials engineering solutions. Founded in 1967, the company began as a chemical supplier for the semiconductor industry, and its earliest brand identity reflected that business directly, including a logo featuring a chemistry flask.[1]
Design and History
In October 2025, Applied Materials unveiled an updated company logo and tagline as part of a brand refresh tied to its approaching 60th anniversary.[1] The new mark centers on a stylized letter “A” that the company calls the “Impact A.”[1]
The Impact A features rounded corners and meticulous parallel lines. According to Applied Materials’ Chief Communications Officer Bevin Maguire, the rounded corners represent the semiconductor wafer, while the lines mirror the precise etching and deposition techniques fundamental to semiconductor fabrication.[1] While similar to the company’s previous design, the Impact A is now showcased within a perfect circle, which the company says evokes its connected ecosystem of end-to-end solutions.[1]
The refresh also introduced a new brand promise: “We deliver material innovation that changes the world.”[1] This replaced the tagline “Make Possible™ a Better Future,” which the company had adopted about ten years earlier.[2]
Prior to the turn of the century, Applied Materials’ brand shifted to feature nanomanufacturing technology, representing the company’s expanded strategic direction as it grew globally.[2]
Meaning and Symbolism
According to the company, the Impact A’s rounded corners symbolize the semiconductor wafer, and its parallel lines represent the etching and deposition techniques used in semiconductor fabrication.[1] The surrounding circle is meant to evoke the company’s connected ecosystem of end-to-end solutions.[1]
The company describes the combination of the precision-crafted A and the perfect circle as a “clean and powerful emblem” that reflects its dedication to precision and innovation in semiconductor manufacturing.[1]
