Icom Incorporated is a Japanese manufacturer of radio communication equipment, founded in 1964 and headquartered in Osaka, Japan.[1] The company produces land mobile, amateur, marine, aviation and satellite radios, among other wireless products.[2] Icom and the Icom logo are registered trademarks of Icom Incorporated in Japan, the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Spain, Russia, Australia, New Zealand and/or other countries.[3]
Design and History
Icom’s standard corporate logo is a typographic wordmark featuring the company name. The company also introduced a dedicated 60th anniversary logo in 2023, ahead of its 60th anniversary on April 10, 2024.[4] This commemorative mark was designed and selected through an employee competition.[4]
The anniversary logo combines the numerals “60” with three arches above the zero. The connected design of the six and zero forms the infinity symbol (∞), symbolizing unlimited potential and possibilities for the company’s future.[4] The mark uses two corporate colors: Icom red and black.[4]
Meaning and Symbolism
According to Icom’s official announcement, the three arches above the zero in the 60th anniversary logo represent the company’s core business of “wireless communications.”[4] The simple design also resembles the “mizuhiki” shape, a traditional Japanese art form of knot-tying commonly used in celebratory occasions.[4] The infinity symbol formed by the connected numerals conveys the company’s aspirations beyond its 60th year.[5]
