Red Electrica is the Spanish electricity transmission system operator, founded in 1985 as Red Eléctrica de España, S.A. In June 2022, the parent group rebranded as Redeia, a new umbrella brand that unifies the group’s five subsidiaries: Red Eléctrica, Reintel, Hispasat, Redinter, and Elewit. The change was announced at the 2022 General Shareholders’ Meeting by Chairwoman Beatriz Corredor, who stated, “Red Eléctrica Group is now Redeia.” The rebrand was described as a change limited exclusively to brand identity, allowing the group to modernize its emblem and those of its subsidiaries with a more digital, modern, dynamic, and flexible approach. All legal corporate names were retained. [1] [2]
Design and History
The Redeia wordmark is rendered in lowercase letters in blue, with the dot of the “i” in turquoise. [3] The new identity was accompanied by an innovative visual ecosystem designed to update the image of the corporation and all its companies. [1]
The rebranding cost was reported at 213,000 euros, covering the entire strategy and implementation of the new brand, with rollout planned over three years in coordination with maintenance and renovation work on the group’s assets. [4]
Meaning and Symbolism
According to CEO Roberto García, the new image “connects routes (a set of points) and lines that inspire the grid with which the Company was born and represents our pioneering nature.” [1] The rebrand was accompanied by a new positioning statement, “the value of the essential” (“el valor de lo esencial”), reflecting the group’s trajectory of bringing electricity to all corners of Spain and enabling connectivity through fiber optics and satellites. [5] The new design was also described as reinforcing the group’s strengths: commitment to sustainability, innovation, and a focus on people. [2]
