Gamevil Inc. was a South Korean mobile game developer and publisher founded in January 2000 by James Song (Byung-Jun Song). The company built a reputation through mobile franchises such as Baseball Superstars and Zenonia before acquiring rival Com2uS in 2013. On November 30, 2021, Gamevil changed its corporate name to Com2uS Holdings, retiring the Gamevil name after 21 years.[1][2]
Design and History
Gamevil’s visual identity was tied to its corporate name change in late 2021. At a temporary shareholders’ meeting held on November 30, 2021, the company approved a resolution to change its name to Com2uS Holdings. The rebrand was part of a broader effort to consolidate the Com2uS group under a single brand, with the new corporate identity (CI) applied across major affiliates and all overseas subsidiaries.[3][4]
According to Com2uS’s official brand story, the new logo was designed with a geometric sans-serif typeface combined with a “smile U” icon. The smile U, formed by a curve connecting two circles, symbolizes joy and happiness as well as connection, coexistence, and mutual evolution among group companies. The logo also adopted a flatter design and a brighter “Com2uS Red” color, which the company said represents passion for positive and creative challenges toward the future.[5][3]
Prior to this rebrand, Gamevil had operated under its own name for over two decades. In 2020, the company marked its 20th anniversary with a special commemorative logo and a “TOP 20 NEWS” infographic, which the company said included the names of all employees within the number design.[6][7]
Meaning and Symbolism
Documented symbolism for the Gamevil-era logo is limited. The company’s official communications from the 2021 rebrand describe the new Com2uS identity in detail, but they do not provide comparable documentation for the earlier Gamevil mark. The smile U icon in the new logo was explicitly described as representing joy, happiness, connection, coexistence, and mutual evolution, while the brighter red was said to express passion for creative challenges.[5][4]
Typography and Design
The Com2uS group’s primary logo, introduced with the 2021 rebrand, combines a geometric sans-serif typeface with the smile U icon. The company stated that the logo was refreshed with a flatter design and a more refined red color for web applications.[5] Specific typography details for the earlier Gamevil wordmark have not been publicly documented by the company.
