Rockstar Lincoln is the quality assurance and software localisation studio of Rockstar Games, based in Lincoln, England. Formerly known as Tarantula Studios, the studio was integrated into Rockstar Games in 2002 and adopted the Rockstar Lincoln name at that time.[1]
Design and History
The Rockstar Lincoln logo follows the same visual family as other Rockstar Games studio marks, featuring the company’s signature star-and-wordmark design. Each Rockstar studio uses a distinct colour treatment to differentiate its identity, and Rockstar Lincoln’s version is rendered with a green background and black lettering.[2] Chinese-language coverage of Rockstar’s studio logos describes the Rockstar Lincoln mark as having a yellow-green background.[3]
The studio’s history predates its Rockstar branding. It was incorporated in 1992 as Spidersoft Limited, developing games for platforms including the Game Boy and MS-DOS. In 1998, Take-Two Interactive acquired the company and renamed it Tarantula Studios. As Tarantula Studios, the developer produced Game Boy Color ports of early Grand Theft Auto titles. In 2002, the studio’s development departments were shut down, and the remainder was integrated into Rockstar Games as Rockstar Lincoln, focusing on quality assurance and localisation.[1]
The logo file, available as an SVG at 512 × 471 pixels, depicts the Rockstar star emblem with the “Rockstar Lincoln” wordmark.[4] Stock photography of the logo shows it displayed on both black and white backgrounds, indicating the mark is designed for flexible placement across different media.[5][6]
Meaning and Symbolism
As with other Rockstar Games studio logos, the Rockstar Lincoln mark shares the parent company’s star iconography, which serves as the unifying element across all studio identities. The colour variation distinguishes each studio within the broader Rockstar Games brand system. No official documentation of additional symbolic meaning specific to the Rockstar Lincoln logo has been published.
