Yggdrasil is a Malta-based provider of online gaming solutions, founded in 2013 by Fredrik Elmqvist. The company develops video slots and casino games, with offices in Malta and Kraków, Poland. Its name references Yggdrasil, the immense world tree of Norse cosmology, a theme that carries directly into the brand’s visual identity.
Design and History
Yggdrasil’s visual identity has undergone two documented phases. The company’s first logo, used from its 2013 founding until 2018, featured the word “YGGDRASIL” in a white serif font on a black background, accompanied by the tagline “SUPERIOR GAMING.” In the animated version, an orange tree formed from bottom to top with sparks appearing around it, following a lightning strike. This logo appeared on early video slots such as Jokerizer and Power Plant.[1]
In September 2018, Yggdrasil introduced a new logo. The current mark consists of a minimalist stylized tree symbol in orange, formed by a flash of light on a black background, with “YGGDRASIL” appearing below. Later game versions added a glowing orange progress bar beneath the wordmark. This logo has appeared on titles such as Winterberries 2 and Wolf Hunters.[1]
The company’s logo is registered as a trademark, and Yggdrasil Gaming Ltd describes itself as a provider of online and mobile casino games, RNG lottery content and live lotto.[2]
Meaning and Symbolism
The Yggdrasil brand draws directly from its Norse namesake. In Norse mythology, Yggdrasil is the immense cosmic tree that connects the nine worlds. The company states it was “inspired by its Norse origins” when it was founded in 2013.[3] The tree symbol in the logo serves as a direct visual reference to this mythological source, tying the brand name to its visual mark.
Typography and Design
The original 2013 logo used a white serif typeface for the “YGGDRASIL” wordmark, paired with the “SUPERIOR GAMING” tagline.[1] The 2018 redesign moved to a simpler presentation, with the wordmark appearing below the stylized tree symbol. The current logo is available as an SVG file on the company’s official website.[4]
