BTG plc was a London-based international specialist healthcare company that developed and commercialised products targeting critical care, cancer and other disorders. In August 2019, BTG plc was acquired by Boston Scientific Corporation and became a wholly-owned subsidiary, with BTG shares ceasing to trade on the London Stock Exchange.[1] The BTG brand and its roundel logo were registered trademarks of BTG International Ltd.[2]
Design and History
The company’s origins trace back to 1981, when the UK government combined the National Enterprise Board with the National Research Development Corporation to form the British Technology Group.[3] The organisation was privatised in 1992 and listed on the London Stock Exchange in 1995. In March 1995, British Technology Group International plc changed its name to BTG plc, a rebrand that coincided with the introduction of the round blue logo.[3]
The roundel-style mark was used across corporate communications and press materials from at least 2016 onward. Company press releases distributed through PR Newswire during 2016 referenced the BTG logo as a standard visual asset accompanying announcements.[4] The logo also appeared in a second version, with two distinct logo files referenced in a February 2016 press release.[5]
Following the Boston Scientific acquisition in 2019, BTG’s product portfolios were integrated into Boston Scientific’s interventional oncology, venous and arterial divisions.[6] The standalone BTG plc identity was retired as the business became part of Boston Scientific’s corporate structure.
Meaning and Symbolism
Documented symbolism for the BTG roundel logo is limited. The mark functioned as a corporate identifier for the specialist healthcare company, and press materials described it simply as the “BTG roundel logo.”[2] [2]
