IQVIA is a global provider of healthcare data, analytics, technology and clinical research services, formed through the 2016 merger of IMS Health and Quintiles. The company adopted the IQVIA name and a new visual identity in November 2017, replacing the QuintilesIMS branding that had been in use since the merger.[1]
Design and History
The IQVIA logo was introduced alongside the company’s name change, which took effect on November 6, 2017.[1] The new identity abandoned Quintiles’ trademark red circle in favor of a wordmark and logo featuring various shades of blue.[2] The logo was created by the agency Rightpoint, while InterbrandHealth in New York was responsible for developing the new name, brand positioning and brand strategy.[3]
The new mark features five horizontal lines of varying lengths, each colored in three shades of blue, which some observers have compared to a human hand.[2] The bright blue “IQ” contrasts with the navy “VIA,” in part to place emphasis on the names of the company’s pre-merger entities, IMS Health and Quintiles.[2]
Local press coverage at the time noted that the company had “swapped its trademark red logo for a more subdued blue acronym” as part of the rebranding effort.[4] The company’s official press release announcing the name change described it as aligning with the organization’s vision “to help stakeholders drive healthcare forward.”[1]
Meaning and Symbolism
Documented symbolism for the IQVIA logo is limited. The five horizontal lines of varying lengths in three shades of blue have drawn comparisons by some to a human hand, though this interpretation was noted by observers rather than stated as official brand intent.[2] The color contrast between the bright blue “IQ” and the navy “VIA” was designed in part to emphasize the names of the pre-merger companies, IMS Health and Quintiles.[2]
